Location
This event will take place at BolognaFiere Exhibition Centre (Service Center).
Purpose
The purpose of "Il profumo di Leonardo" was both educational and celebratory, aiming to bridge the gap between historical art and modern cosmetic science.
1. Historical Education
The exhibition showcased Leonardo’s research into extraction techniques. Leonardo was one of the first to experiment with distillation and the maceration of plants in alcohol—techniques that remain fundamental to modern perfumery. It displayed reproductions of his sketches (from the Codex Atlanticus) involving:
- Still designs for distilling flowers.
- Studies on botanical properties for hair dyes.
- Original recipes for "scented waters" used at the court of Ludovico il Moro in Milan.
2. Olfactory Immersion
The event featured an actual fragrance created specifically for the occasion. Designed to "bring Leonardo’s essence to the present day," the perfume used ingredients and notes inspired by his life and the Renaissance era, such as citrus, lavender, and balsamic resins.
3. The Rebus Concept
Under the cap of the fragrance bottle, a rebus designed by Leonardo was featured (a heart, the letters "ni," and two three-arched bridges). When read from right to left, it translates to "PontinCore," which means "Place yourself in the heart" or "Keep in mind," symbolizing a scent that reaches the soul.
4. Bridging Industry and Art
By hosting this at Cosmoprof, the organizers aimed to demonstrate that the modern beauty supply chain (which you see in events like Cosmopack) has its roots in the scientific curiosity and creative experimentation of the Italian Renaissance.
